“Another Thebes” by Sergio Blanco

On six further evenings, Mondays from May 13th to 14th, 20th and 21st and from May 27th to 28th, the audience will have the opportunity to see the great success of the Theater der Neue Welt, which is being played with (or to see again). Permanent season sold out for the second time. Vangelis Theodoropoulos highlighted this multi-layered work, whose direction was highly praised by critics and audiences for its excellent pacing and atmospheric atmosphere. The show continues to win the admiration of audiences due to the excellent performances of actors Thanos Lekkas in the role of the author and Dimitris Kapouranis in the dual role of Martin/Federico.

The game

A writer meets twenty-year-old parricide Martin in prison for several months. His goal is to write a play based on the story of the young prisoner, to whom he proposes to interpret himself on stage. When this is finally banned by the responsible ministry, Federico, a young actor with whom the author now works at the same time, takes over the role. Interestingly, Sergio Blanco wants these two roles to be played by one actor.

The French-Uruguayan Sergio Blanco, one of the strongest voices in Spanish-language theater today, offers us a contemporary study of male identity, oppression, violence and crime, punishment and discrimination, but also of the creative processes themselves of theatrical art, with references to myth of Oedipus, but also to Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment.
