Stand-up tragedy with Katia Gerou

THE Katia Gerou after the extremely successful performance of Medea directed by the late Kyriakou Katzourakis presents their new show at the Stathmos Theater this year “Get Up Tragedy” with which she attempts to deceive both the public and herself, starting November 2nd, every Wednesday & Thursday at 8:30 p.m.

Characters appear on stage – roles that represent the influences and forces that influence our lives. We listen to their thoughts and arguments. A silent face follows them on foot and embodies them. In the end he stops mocking, mocking and imitating and speaks from the depths. The titles of the lyrics: Block Delete, Cement Yes, The Clarinet, Miss Smile, Birthday. Topics: The society of the spectacle, which holds up well no matter what happens around us, the confirmation of thoughtless development, “philanthropy”, the psyche of modern man and the eternal desire for height and meaning.

Director’s Note March 2020

Our first collaboration with Katia in the form of cabaret began in 2004 at the Art Theater with Transit. It was an approach to the world living on the margins and trying to find its own voice. Then came the second performance in 2006 with the piece “Tou Dromou”, which was written by almost all of the show’s actors. A bitter commentary with a storm of snapshots from everyday life. Almost all of the texts now come from Katia Gerou, as she was the one who conceived the idea. The great difficulty and fascination in directing is that it’s not about snapshots, but rather long monologues. Yes, it’s cabaret, but with a theatrical structure. A person embodies all roles, with the result that little by little the not so attractive types he embodies run the risk of absorbing him. And of course at some point he reacts in his own way. With his very own weapon, his art.

“This man, observing my own pessimistic state and relying on him, I let him sing the praises of life at the end.” The sentence he repeats is: “I am dying for my life.”
