The 51st Book Festival begins today on the Field of Areos

Today, Friday September 1st, the biggest celebration of books, the 51st Book Festival, begins, this time on the Field of Areos. The beloved fall institution is back and will be open through September 17th, ushering in the park’s new era. 210 publishers, 275 stands, 180 cultural events, concerts, theater performances, interactive educational events and much more in the large 51o Book festival 2023.

In the renovated space, which is historic for books, festival visitors have the opportunity to see and take part in a diverse, cultural event against the backdrop of thousands of books.


Among many other events there will be: A concert with the great artist Eleni Dimou, a concert by the Marios Strofalis Quartet & Irini Tumbaki, a concert with the soprano Christy Kathariou, a children’s theater show “The Carnival of the Animals” by the theater production company METHEXIS, performance by Karagiozis from the shadow theater “Nikolas Tzivelekis”, event of the Hellenic Academy of Comics, two-day event for first-time authors.

The central tribute at the 51st Book Festival 2023 is entitled “Woman – a complex reading” and focuses on the contribution of women in art and literature, but also on the challenges they face over the years and today. The poster and cover of the catalog of the 51st Book Festival 2023 are decorated with works by Greek painter Giorgos Rorris.


The 51st Book Festival is organized by the Association of Book Publishers (S.EK.B.), the Attica Region and the Organization for Culture, Sports and Youth of the City of Athens (OPANDA) in collaboration with Mikro Paris from Athens and the Network for Rights of the child. The event is under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, the City of Athens, the Greek Cultural Foundation, the Athens Chamber of Commerce and with the support of Vestart.

The official opening will take place on Monday, September 4, 2023 at 8:00 p.m.
